Critical Thinking, a Lost Art in the UFO subculture.

Image
Greetings. Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action. The UFO subculture, excepting the credible, skeptical, and dispassionate research community, is incapable of putting the aforementioned intellectual exercise into practice.  Put simply, critical thinking is the process of analyzing available facts, evidence, observations, and arguments to make sound conclusions or informed choices. It involves recognizing underlying assumptions, providing justifications for ideas and actions, evaluating these justifications through comparisons with varying perspectives, and assessing their rationality and potential consequences. The goal of critical thinking is to form a judgment through the application of rational, skeptical, and unbiased ana...

Get it Together Witnesses!

Image
Greetings. Interacting with people online can be a total waste of time, often times otherwise. It all depends on the situation, and all too often, on the grammatical capabilities of the person across the keyboard. What do I mean? Well, time for a rant.... If I had a dollar for every time I have had the "privilege" of interacting with a grammatically challenged person, I would have already bought out MUFON, and immediately thrown the immoral organization into a trash bin, never to be seen or heard from again. Some, certainly not all, but some people just cannot spell, cannot accurately communicate their thoughts in a written form, and seemingly are unable to use the English language in a proper and productive manner. Such interactions make it impossible to grasp the thoughts of the opposing person, which makes the entire exercise an operation in futility.  Spelling! I have often called out, or inquired about the grammatical issues at play, which almost always motivates the off...

Canada's UFO Legend, Shag Harbour.

Image
Greetings. The Shag Harbour incident was the reported crash/impact/landing of an unidentified flying object into the waters in the vicinity of Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia, a tiny fishing village on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The described events are alleged to have taken place on October 4th of 1967. The reports were investigated by various Canadian civilian agencies (RCMP and Canadian Coast Guard,) and military factions (Canadian Forces Navy and Air Force,) as well as the United States' own Condon Committee. On the 4th of October, at approximately 11:20pm local time, witnesses reported that something had crashed into the waters of Shag Harbour. At least eleven people saw a low-flying unidentified object head directly towards the harbour. Multiple witnesses reported hearing a whistling sound "like a bomb," then a "whoosh," and finally a loud bang. The object in question was never officially identified, and was therefore referred to as an unidentified flying ...

The Delegitimization of the UFO Topic.

Image
Greetings. The UFO problem is deserving of scientific scrutiny. That is plainly irrefutable, with some of the most well-known debunkers having publicly advocated for such an investigative undertaking. The late Philip J. Klass supported the effort. The late Carl Sagan supported the effort.  The scientific examination of the UFO problem has a secondary, but no less significant effect on the way that the topic is viewed by the general public. It legitimizes the subject. It gives the problem a level of credibility. Putting aside the necessity for credible investigations, such focused and competent ventures may open doors that have continually remained shut due to the activities of people within the UFO subculture itself.  Unfortunately, the UFO subculture has a plethora of shows, podcasts, and television programming that make the UFO topic look like a joke. Adding insult to injury, many people in the UFO field cannot seem to avoid making decisions that damage the field. How hard i...

Nancy Mace: Ambassador of Foolishness.

Image
Greetings. The UFO subculture has a new ambassador, an ambassador of foolishness, Ms. Nancy Mace. Nancy Mace is the United States representative for South Carolina's 1st congressional district, in office since 2021. A member of the Republican Party, Mace, in 1999, became the first woman to graduate from the Corps of Cadets program at The Citadel. From 2018 to 2020, she represented the 99th district in the South Carolina House of Representatives. In 2020, Mace was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, becoming the first Republican woman elected to Congress from South Carolina. Mace worked for Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, but strongly condemned his actions surrounding the January 6th attacks on the U.S. Capitol. Mace asserted that Trump's legacy had been "wiped out" and that he should be held "accountable" for his actions. As with many politicians, from both sides of the isle, she soon lost her balls and ultimately voted against impea...

Spinning the Ufological Wheels (2024 Edition.)

Image
Greetings. 2025 is fast approaching, and has the UFO subculture taken any steps forward? Has any new information come to light? Has any proof or evidence been presented that has advanced the UFO field in any substantive direction? Let's take a look at the past calendar year.... Days have passed, months have passed, and nothing new or groundbreaking has come to light, a not unexpected situation considering the current state of the UFO subculture. The same old faces and voices continued to play their established parts in the fictional trainwreck that is the UFO field of dreams. Books were published, festivals were held, lectures were delivered, and on-the-air appearances constantly took place, yet nothing beyond the vocal, the anecdotal took place, or broke through the log jam of UFO rhetoric and juicy ufological excrement.  On August 20th, Luis Elizondo's "Imminent: Inside the Pentagon's Hunt for UFOs" was published and released to the public, promising new revelat...
