The Delegitimization of the UFO Topic.

Greetings. The UFO problem is deserving of scientific scrutiny. That is plainly irrefutable, with some of the most well-known debunkers having publicly advocated for such an investigative undertaking. The late Philip J. Klass supported the effort. The late Carl Sagan supported the effort. 

The scientific examination of the UFO problem has a secondary, but no less significant effect on the way that the topic is viewed by the general public. It legitimizes the subject. It gives the problem a level of credibility. Putting aside the necessity for credible investigations, such focused and competent ventures may open doors that have continually remained shut due to the activities of people within the UFO subculture itself. 

Unfortunately, the UFO subculture has a plethora of shows, podcasts, and television programming that make the UFO topic look like a joke. Adding insult to injury, many people in the UFO field cannot seem to avoid making decisions that damage the field. How hard is it to make wise, logical, and professional decisions? Impossibly difficult for some evidently. 

It seems to me that if one holds a particular field of study close to heart, if one is a public advocate for a serious, credible, and professional approach, regardless of topic, then the last thing one should do is to pursue a course of action that damages that very same field, not to mention that same individual's credibility. Yet, that kind of foolishness continually happens, and it boggles the mind. GUFON's Rich Giordano, pictured above, is one of the most "accomplished" on-the-air trainwrecks currently active in the UFO subculture. I for one would not get within a million kilometers of him, but others coddle, cosset, and support him, all the while excusing his immature and cringeworthy behavior. That speaks volumes about the coddlers.

Jimmy Church, pictured above with Ancient Aliens' own Giorgio Tsoukalos, needs no introduction. Mr. Church is a charter member of the ufotainment industry, and as a result, has no credibility to speak of. Yet, Richard Dolan, who is viewed by many in UFO circles to be a credible and experienced researcher, evidently has no qualms whatsoever about appearing on Church's show "Fade to Black." That speaks volumes about Mr. Dolan and his motivations.

I could go on and on, but that would be a waste of time, and I only have a few decades left to write about this shameful set of circumstances. The examples litter the wreckage of the UFO subculture, with the public not bothering to bat an eye for any reason or circumstance. The endless search for fame, fortune, and notoriety is the only real focus for most public figures in the UFO arena, not the work, and certainly not the research. Even validation is becoming a strong motivation, with lesser known researchers seeking to be validated or acknowledged, for reasons that are easy to guess at, reasons that are not that unexpected considering the people who are desperately seeking acknowledgement. 

What happened to working on the UFO problem? 

Seems some people are not intelligent enough to realize that their efforts are delegitimizing the entire subject matter, or worse, perhaps they just don't give a hoot.
