The Dolan Debasement Continues.

Greetings. Fame and fortune. The three words are self-explanatory, and are in need of no elaboration.

Richard Dolan, a well-known figure in the UFO subculture, has recently completed a change of approach. His early work in the UFO research community was highly respected, deservedly so, but that has completely changed. Nowadays, Mr. Dolan has become a card-carrying member of the UFO entertainment industry, plain and simple. I was actually done writing about Mr. Dolan, after having written two earlier pieces about his graduation to the world of celebrity, however, I happened to come across an advertisement (of course) for the show that Jeremy Corbell and George Knapp co-host. The ad featured the next upcoming guest, one Mr. Richard Dolan. I felt additional writing was in order. Mr. Corbell and Mr. Knapp are leaders of the UFO entertainment industry, with their notoriety firmly established, and their professional integrity lost, never to be seen again. Evidently Mr. Dolan has made the decision to closely associate with members of the UFO entertainment industry, which speaks volumes about his commitment, or lack thereof, to the work, the research, and the investigative effort.

I have never met Mr. Dolan in person, nor have I met Mr. Corbell or Mr. Knapp, so my opinions and conclusions are solely based on the content they offer and the statements made by the gentlemen, and in my humble opinion, they are troubling and disconcerting to say the least. None of the content they offer and promote has anything to do with work, research, or investigative inquiries into the UFO problem. From the promotion of allegedly anomalous videos that turn out to be nothing out of the ordinary, to the embracing of historical hoaxes, Dolan, Knapp, and Corbell have become the face of the UFO subculture, despite the fact that they are celebrities, personalities, and nothing more than that.

Dolan in particular is constantly promoting content; signed copies of his books, or video lectures that are only accessible after a substantial fee is paid. Shameless self-promotion. It boggles the mind, but it is not surprising considering the circumstances within the UFO subculture. The lure of fame and notoriety (six words I have used too often to count) is strong. Many a dedicated researcher has been led astray by the UFO gold at the end of the nonsensical rainbow, and Mr. Dolan is just the latest victim, although he is not an innocent participant. He knows exactly what he is going.

The two previous blog postings I wrote about Mr. Dolan are available at https://williamgpullin.blogspot.com/2023/12/dolan-and-spotlight.html and at https://williamgpullin.blogspot.com/2023/12/questionable-perceptions.html

Thank you for your time and consideration.

  1. Thank you, Mr. Pullin for your informative and well-written posts. I value your unbiased opinion: who are the researchers/authors that we should place our trust in? There are so many who it seems are no longer credible, if they ever were.

    1. Sincerest thanks for your kind words Sir. I encourage you to seek out Jan Aldrich at Project1947, which can be found at https://www.project1947.com/. Kevin D. Randle's blogspot is available at https://kevinrandle.blogspot.com/?m=1. It must be stated that I am biased since Kevin is a friend. I also hold the work of John Greenwalde of "The Black Vault" in high regard. All dispassionate, all objective and all skeptical in their approach to the work.

Liars, Frauds, and Misrepresenters.

Greetings. I am occasionally asked why I write about so many of the troubling issues within the UFO subculture. One reason, actually two. One, because the troubling issues exist, and I cannot in good conscience simply ignore them. Two, I am passionate about the UFO question, and I care deeply about the integrity of the entire UFO subculture, even though I am not an active participant in the movement.  There are many outstanding people involved in UFO research, individuals with integrity, an unshakable commitment to the work, and a high level of professionalism. They consistently grind the research stone in the never-ending effort to solve, or at the very least, learn about the UFO problem and it's innumerable questions. I cannot offer enough kind words of support and encouragement to those people, they are all deserving of our accolades, for they conduct their workmanlike efforts behind the scenes, without attention, out of the limelight, and beyond the prying eyes of the UFO subcu

Cringeworthy Promotion, Dolan Style.

Greetings. Mr. Richard Dolan is one of the most well-known figures in the UFO subculture. Known as a historian of the UFO topic, Mr. Dolan has commented at length about the UFO problem on various platforms, on broadcast media, during his own show, and on various social media outlets.  Mr. Dolan is a highly active participant on the UFO circuit, making appearances at many UFO themed festivals and conferences, actively promoting himself throughout. Now the simple act of promotion is not necessarily a negative course of action, but it is strongly suggestive of a change of course. In UFO circles, the act of self-promotion is a slippery slope, one that many well-known public figures have fallen into, some seemingly by accident, others by choice. Mr. Dolan seems to have chosen his course of action, and is apparently quite comfortable in his new surroundings.   Some UFO researchers have lost their professional credibility and integrity in the name of fame, notoriety, and financial gain. MUFON: Peddling Nonsense or Unknowingly Ignorant?

Greetings. The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) was once a legitimate investigative organization. Back in the 1970's, the organization worked alongside, but not in cooperation with, the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO) and the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP.) By the 1990's, MUFON was the only game left in town, with APRO and NICAP having passed into UFO history. In recent years, the organization's focus has shifted away from UFO investigations towards the UFO entertainment industry and the nonsensical content it embraces. The organization has experienced several setbacks in recent years, self-inflicted wounds that tended to occur at the upper echelons of the organization, with the names Jan Harzan, John Ventre, and Steve Hudgeons immediately coming to mind. Despite this situation, there are several local chapters that have maintained a level of investigative focus and legitimacy, keeping the chaos of the higher organization at arm's
