A Time to be Thankful.

Image
Greetings. As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches here in the United States, I think it is an appropriate time to give thanks to the people who have given so much of themselves, even if they have been unwittingly doing so. First and foremost, I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of my readers. Your support is greatly appreciated, your comments are a constant source of inspiration, and your points of view provide strong motivation for professional consideration and reassessment. Thank you! I want to thank Mr. Frank Kimbler, Mr. Dennis Balthasar, Mr. Kevin Randle, and Mr. Donald Schmitt. Friends all, possessing of personal kindness and thoughtfulness, professional focus and integrity. The times I spend in Roswell with these gentlemen, and they are all gentlemen, are far too fleeting, but are always emotionally and professionally satisfying. Thank you! I want to thank Erica Lukes and Jack Brewer of Expanding Frontiers Research for providing me a warm and welcoming place to interact ...

1976: Tehran, Iran.

Image
Greetings. The year 1976 brought an interesting historical UFO case, one that has remained controversial to this day. The Tehran UFO Incident was a radar/visual sighting of an unidentified flying object in the night skies over Tehran, the capital of Iran. During the events in question, two Imperial Iranian Air Force F-4 Phantom II jet interceptors reported losing instrumentation and communication capabilities as they approached the unknown, unidentified object. Upon withdrawal from the unknown, all of the functions of the two aircraft returned to normal. One of the aircraft also reported a temporary weapons systems failure while the crew was preparing to open fire on the unknown.  In the early hours of the 19th of September in 1976, a shining object was reported in the skies above Tehran by at least four civilians. Lieutenant Yaddi Nazeri of the Imperial Iranian Air Force (IIAF,) plus a backseat weapons officer, were dispatched in an F-4 Phantom II jet interceptor to investigate. O...

The Church of Jimmy, Fully Prepared to Let the Dick Fly.

Image
Greetings. Interactions within the UFO subculture can be cordial and strictly professional. Can be, but are such interactions always so? Sadly, no. A recent comment left behind by Jimmy Church is one such unfortunate example.  During the course of my last blog posting, I made comments about the professional investigative integrity of Richard Dolan and Daniel Alan Jones. Professional being the operative word. I did not, nor would I, ever make comments about someone's personal life or personal integrity, for such rhetoric is clearly out of bounds and totally uncalled for. Nor will I engage in character assassination or immature name-calling. We are all supposed to be adults here, but that particular memo has not been read and understood by certain people, in this case, Mr. Jimmy Church.  Mr. Church's comment reads as follows, and I quote: "Nobody gives a shit, William. People, critics, skeptics, who take cracks at anyone for trying to do research or look into it, a subject, ...

Why do Hoaxes Never Die?

Image
Greetings. Hoaxes. Whilst a statistically insignificant aspect of the UFO picture, some of the more well-known historical UFO cases on the books are known to be hoaxes. Despite the complete lack of tangible proof or evidence to support their validity, and the mountain of information strongly suggesting that the cases in question are not valid, but rather hoaxes perpetrated for unknown reasons, these cases have become legendary in their stature, and are seemingly eternal in their lifespan. Let's take a look at the current, and historical, situation.  The list of known historical hoaxes is not really that long, but their notoriety is certainly something to behold; Aztec, Aurora, Trinity, Kingman, Del Rio, Maury Island, San Agustin, among a few others. Their collective cashe of supportive evidence is almost nonexistent, void of valid corroborating documentation, lacking in physical, tangible, and falsifiable evidence, and wanting of any reasonable continuity among the alleged witness ...

The Uproarious Bob Spearing, of the Cult of MUFON.

Image
Greetings. The Mutual UFO Network, and by extension the UFO subculture, have some credible and dedicated researchers working on the UFO problem. The UFO world also has some interesting characters holding a place on the UFO field of dreams (delusions.) Perhaps no other person on the field, if it can be called that, is so hilarious to interact with than MUFON's own Bob Spearing.  A few days ago, Mr. Spearing commented on a post which appeared in the UFO Culture Magazine group on Facebook, a comment which I replied to, asking for proof and evidence. A reasonable request. Just this afternoon, in the very same Facebook group, Mr. Spearing made a return appearance, posting the following content, and I quote: "Since Michael made today an anything goes day, here is my contribution.  Last week I replied to a post by Michael Huntington here. See below. William Pullin replied that I had no proof. See below. He later added to his crazy tirade but did not reply on the UFO culture Mag fb p...

The Chicago O'Hare Sighting and the Possibilities.

Image
Greetings. The Chicago O'Hare UFO sighting occurred on November 7th of 2006, at approximately 4:15pm local time. Twelve employees of United Airlines and a few additional witnesses outside the grounds of O'Hare International Airport reported the sighting of an unidentified flying object over the facility. The Federal Aviation Administration refused to investigate the matter because the unknown was not seen on radar, instead referring to it as a "weather phenomenon." On November 7th of 2006, federal authorities at Chicago O'Hare International Airport received a report alleging that a group of twelve airport employees were observing a metallic, saucer-shaped object hovering over Gate C-17. The witnesses stated that the unidentified object was in fact, a structured craft of some sort. The unknown was initially spotted by a ramp employee who was pushing back United Airlines Flight 446, which was scheduled to depart Chicago for Charlotte, North Carolina. The employee in...

Luis Elizondo: A Ufological Dung Beetle.

Image
Greetings. The world of UFOs is an incredibly mixed-up, convoluted, polarized environment. You have credible researchers, and some who are far less credible. You also have fraudsters, charlatans, and celebrities; all of whom so closely related that they are almost indistinguishable from each other. And of course, you have those who are easily fooled by some of the aforementioned "far less credible" people on the UFO field of dreams. In other words, the UFO public.  The fraudsters, charlatans, and celebrities that hold a place in the starting lineup for team UFO are, for the most part, peddlers of steamy excrement, ufological dung beetles. No offense to dung beetles. They consistently make unsubstantiated claims and promote sensationalized information that is not true, not grounded in reality, and unsupported by anything which could be accepted as proof or evidence. In the course of their activities, a fee or a paywall is usually in place, putting on full display their real mo...

Maury Island: Washington State's Bowl of Crap.

Image
Greetings. Washington state's bowl of crap, Maury Island.  The Maury Island incident refers to debunked claims made by Fred Crisman and Harold Dahl in June of 1947. The men told of falling debris and threats by the "Men in Black" following sightings of unidentified flying objects in the skies over Maury Island, Washington, in the United States. The pair claimed that the events had occurred on June 21st of 1947. The incident is widely regarded as a hoax, even by believers of flying saucers and UFOs, although not by everyone in the UFO subculture.  On August 1, two Air Force officers tasked with investigating the incident were killed when their aircaft crashed to the ground just outside of Kelso, Washington. Project Blue Book chief Edward J. Ruppelt characterized the story as "the dirtiest hoax in the UFO history." On July 29, Kenneth Arnold interviewed Harold Dahl, pictured above, who reported the following, and I quote: "On June 21, 1947 in the afternoon ab...
