What Happened to the SCU?

"....what we're talking about is just some advanced civilization that hybridized us a couple of hundred million years ago and imbued us with different religions as some kind of cargo cult to make us believe in a moral values system, and maybe they really do hear our thoughts and guide us." Ross Coulthart.

Greetings. The SCU, the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies, was founded a few short years ago under the auspices of attempting to scrutinize the UFO problem with a strict adherence to the scientific method. Certainly a worthwhile endeavor, but has the situation changed? It seems so.

The organization has made the rebarbative decision to have the controversial pseudojournalist Ross Coulthart appear as the keynote speaker for their upcoming conference. The decision-making process undertaken by the organization has not been made publicly known, so their transparency is clearly in question. Additionally, the organization seems to be quite comfortable with the violent rhetoric and unsubstantiated claims and statements made by Mr. Coulthart, which places their moral fortitude and professional integrity firmly in doubt. When the SCU was initially founded, the organization successfully maintained a high level of professionalism, which is not common within the UFO subculture, but as time has passed, particularly in the past few weeks, that ufological luster has become tarnished, perhaps damaged beyond hope of repair.

In recent weeks, the SCU's Rich Hoffman, an Executive Board Member of the organization, has been making various appearances on shows and podcasts allegedly to discuss the UFO problem, but in reality, Mr. Hoffman has been engaging in damage control as Mr. Coulthart's keynote speaker appearance has become quite a negative talking point since it was first announced to the public at large. Mr. Hoffman, pictured below with the controversial Luis Elizondo at the SCU's first conference, has become more of a public figure due to this recent activities, which can be seen as a form of promotion, an action that legitimate scientific investigative entities don't seek out or participate in.

My friend Jack Brewer, a published author and accomplished researcher, stated in a recent posting on X (Twitter,) and I quote, "I agree SCU is in effect making the transition from trying to keep a veneer of scientific credibility to full on courting the UFO enthusiasts & practicing science by press release." Jack's words speak volumes and accurately capture the current situation within the SCU.

Now I won't claim to know the specific reason(s) why the SCU has decided to pursue this particular course of action, but it is a significant divergence which may negatively affect their investigative endeavors. The UFO subculture can't afford any potential missteps, which is a potentiality in this case. Time will tell what transpires.
