The Goldberg Syndrome Revisited.
Greetings. A few months ago, I happened to have the opportunity to interact with Mr. Sid Goldberg, an Emmy award-winning writer, director, and producer. Unfortunately, the interaction went rather badly, motivating me to write up a blog posting on Facebook about the occurrence.
Entitled "The Goldberg Syndrome," the blog focused on the amateurish, immatuure, disrespectful, unproductive behavior of Mr. Goldberg. The link to the blog posting in question is https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid037b4KkcKZ72PLyGH9NKHiVeZrzCNmEDtuo7ZfmhY7Yjum6zF5o9CujV2tbQiyoJpGl&id=100063229330941&mibextid=Nif5oz.
Since the initial publication of that blog posting, I have not heard from Mr. Goldberg, but that changed overnight. A comment was left behind attached to an article I shared in another Facebook group, a comment which reads, and I quote: "...Said the clown with no expertise!" I made no effort to respond to his comment, nor will I moving forward, but it does bear some honest examination.
I have been called many interesting names by a few members of the UFO subculture, names I will not repeat here, but I have never responded in kind. That would be disrespectful to that person. I won't sink to that level of behavior. I have found that name-calling and character assassinations usually come from people who have diametrically opposed points of view, and who have no credible legs to stand on when it comes to the discussions at hand. Sadly, this kind of behavior often comes from grown adults, people who should know better, with some being highly accomplished in their fields, as Mr. Goldberg certainly is.
The conversations that Mr. Goldberg and I had those months ago were about the Trinity hoax, the debunked story being peddled by Paola Harris and Jacques Vallee. Mr. Goldberg felt very strongly about the validity of the case, with my position being the exact opposite. Early on it became apparent that the course of our discussion, which took place in a series of back and forth comments, was not going to be productive in nature, and it soon turned personal, necessitating administrative action in the group, which I appreciated. Mr. Goldberg's words and comments inspired me to come up with the term "The Goldberg Syndrome" to describe such behavioral problems. The term has stuck, so to speak.
Interestingly, none of the aforementioned people attacked me in person, their comments were made behind the safety of a keyboard. That is the norm in today's society, and it will likely remain so for the foreseeable future. Abhorrent behavior is made far easier thanks to the Internet, specifically social media. As a direct result, The Goldberg Syndrome will continue to be in full effect for some individuals, with others taking great pains to not catch the bug.
Beware of The Goldberg Syndrome, it is a horrid bug to catch. Beware of Mr. Sid Goldberg, he is an interesting gentleman to say the least.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
