Blissfully Ignorant, Embarrassingly Uninformed.

Greetings. In many ways, the UFO community is a social club, where people rub elbows with celebrities and researchers, and oftentimes, with liars.

Far too often, legitimate research work is not a part of the dynamic, instead, the effort to be seen with people of some notoriety is the only goal. Selfies are taken, contacts are exchanged, and people whore themselves in an attempt to become part of the club. It would all seem embarrassing, but that is lost on the parties involved.

Now it's one thing to rub elbows with researchers in the UFO community, I have done the exact same thing in decades past. It is another thing altogether to socialize with liars and disinformation/misinformation agents. That latter scenario happens all the time, mostly because the draw of the UFO social club is strong, but occasionally because some people are simply ignorant of UFO history. Blissfully ignorant, embarrassingly uninformed.

The image attached to this particular blog posting is something I happened to come across on Facebook. I had just recently interacted with Richard Doty on the same platform, and the gentleman was not enamored with my statements, which I couldn't care less about. I keep my statements squarely supported by valid information, and far away from the personal and subjective. I stand by my statements, period. The interaction in question motivated me to do a little digging into Mr. Doty's recent activities in the UFO community, and it did not take long at all to find some revealing items.

Mr. Doty is pictured here with Nicole Sakach, a UFO enthusiast who clearly is either very comfortable taking pictures with admitted liars, or she is blissfully ignorant, embarrassingly uninformed. I don't know which, but I believe both dynamics are at play.  The image places the motivations of many people firmly in doubt. As I stated before, the lure of the UFO social club is strong, so this kind of thing happens all the time. The post that contained the image featured some revealing comments left behind by some well-known people.

David Marler and James Clarkson, two of the most credentialed and experienced researchers of the UFO problem, pushed back very strongly against the fact that Mr. Doty continues to be embraced by many in the UFO community. Grant Cameron, a researcher who claims that Ms. Sakach is his assistant, Cameron Logan, a broadcaster who claims that Mr. Doty is a friend, and Bob McGwier, a retired professor, were numbered among those who seem to have no problem at all with Mr. Doty and his activities in the UFO community. That fact alone places their integrity, morality, and common sense firmly in question. Mind-boggling, but not surprising, not in the least.

This kind of activity proves what I have been saying for many years now. The UFO community is a social club, not a legitimate investigative endeavor, just an opportunity to rub elbows and promote one's self.

I sincerely wish things were different, but that is not the situation as it stands now.

Blissfully ignorant, embarrassingly uninformed.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

  2. She is ignorant and uninformed but still an adult with no excuses. The behavior she provides out in the community is one of schmoozing with names without a care to their background. I've never seen so many people collectively, regardless of their educational background, embrace liars and criminals without discrimination. How so many people can turn a blind eye has for myself opened my eyes. If I ever embarce a pedophile, rapist or admitted liars just take me out back and shoot me. I can't imagining giving up my own integrity as a human being to take photos and schmooze with people who are without a shred human decency.

Liars, Frauds, and Misrepresenters.

Greetings. I am occasionally asked why I write about so many of the troubling issues within the UFO subculture. One reason, actually two. One, because the troubling issues exist, and I cannot in good conscience simply ignore them. Two, I am passionate about the UFO question, and I care deeply about the integrity of the entire UFO subculture, even though I am not an active participant in the movement.  There are many outstanding people involved in UFO research, individuals with integrity, an unshakable commitment to the work, and a high level of professionalism. They consistently grind the research stone in the never-ending effort to solve, or at the very least, learn about the UFO problem and it's innumerable questions. I cannot offer enough kind words of support and encouragement to those people, they are all deserving of our accolades, for they conduct their workmanlike efforts behind the scenes, without attention, out of the limelight, and beyond the prying eyes of the UFO subcu

Cringeworthy Promotion, Dolan Style.

Greetings. Mr. Richard Dolan is one of the most well-known figures in the UFO subculture. Known as a historian of the UFO topic, Mr. Dolan has commented at length about the UFO problem on various platforms, on broadcast media, during his own show, and on various social media outlets.  Mr. Dolan is a highly active participant on the UFO circuit, making appearances at many UFO themed festivals and conferences, actively promoting himself throughout. Now the simple act of promotion is not necessarily a negative course of action, but it is strongly suggestive of a change of course. In UFO circles, the act of self-promotion is a slippery slope, one that many well-known public figures have fallen into, some seemingly by accident, others by choice. Mr. Dolan seems to have chosen his course of action, and is apparently quite comfortable in his new surroundings.   Some UFO researchers have lost their professional credibility and integrity in the name of fame, notoriety, and financial gain. MUFON: Peddling Nonsense or Unknowingly Ignorant?

Greetings. The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) was once a legitimate investigative organization. Back in the 1970's, the organization worked alongside, but not in cooperation with, the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO) and the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP.) By the 1990's, MUFON was the only game left in town, with APRO and NICAP having passed into UFO history. In recent years, the organization's focus has shifted away from UFO investigations towards the UFO entertainment industry and the nonsensical content it embraces. The organization has experienced several setbacks in recent years, self-inflicted wounds that tended to occur at the upper echelons of the organization, with the names Jan Harzan, John Ventre, and Steve Hudgeons immediately coming to mind. Despite this situation, there are several local chapters that have maintained a level of investigative focus and legitimacy, keeping the chaos of the higher organization at arm's
