The Marden Chronicles: Voluminous but Accomplished?

Greetings. Kathleen Marden. The name is well-known in the UFO subculture, the niece of alleged abductee Betty Hill, and an active member of the Mutual UFO Network. Putting aside Ms. Marden's activities within the self-promotional shitshow that is today's MUFON organization, she has been erroneously labeled, by UFO Hunters' William J. Birnes, as a witness to the Betty and Barney Hill abduction from September of 1961. Bullshit. Ms. Marden was told the story by her aunt Betty Hill, and was not a witness to what allegedly transpired. Period. Talk about an embarrassing statement courtesy of a man who holds a JD degree in law from Concord Law School.

According to the International UFO Museum and Research Center's own website:

"Kathleen Marden’s insatiable interest in UFOs and ET contact began in 1961 when her aunt and uncle Betty and Barney Hill had a close encounter and UFO abduction in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. As a family member, Kathleen gained firsthand knowledge of Betty’s and Barney’s UFO encounter on the day they arrived home and two days later, she visited the Hill’s home. She has devoted years to painstaking investigation of the Hills' anomalous events and archival research on their UFO abduction. As the trustee of Betty’s estate, she selected her aunt and uncle’s historical records for a permanent archival collection at the Milne Special Collections Library, UNH Library, University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1971 and engaged in graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati and UNH while working as an educator and education services coordinator. She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Delta Sociology Honor Society. In the mid-1980’s she launched a new career as an investigator, researcher, and author.

From 1991-2023, she volunteered for the Mutual UFO Network in various positions such as National Director of Field Investigator Training and National Founder/Director of MUFON's Experiencer Research Team. Over a ten-year period, Kathleen expanded her team from three members to forty-five trained, seasoned specialists and attracted several PhD and MD psychological and research consultants. She is also the recipient of the International UFO Congress Lifetime Achievement Award.

Additionally, she has engaged in scholarly research and authorship as well as academic studies pertaining to hypnosis and earned certificates as a hypnotherapist and Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique practitioner.

She has worked on four social research studies on nearly 6,000 experiencers (Marden-Stoner, Edgar Mitchell FREE, MUFON ERT, Marden-Barton) with several PhD researchers. She sat on FREE’s advisory board and worked directly on the MUFON ERT’s study on 516 ET contact experiencers. She and Don C. Donderi, PhD (McGill University, retired) worked on phase 2 of MUFON’s Experiencer Survey, the American Personality Inventory.

She has witnessed and researched a psychological intimidation and disinformation campaign against the Hills and other UFO abductees/ET contact experiencers of similar status. Her compassion for unfairly targeted innocents led to an alteration in her focus from investigation to support and advocacy. She continues to advocate respectful treatment for people who have interacted, willingly or unwillingly, with non-human entities.

As a scholarly researcher, she has conducted extensive research in physical and online archives and is the primary author or coauthor of several books. Her bestseller with scientific ufologist and lecturer Stanton T. Friedman, MSc. (1934-2019) is Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience (second edition in 2021.). They coauthored two additional books Science Was Wrong (published in Chinese) and Fact, Fiction, and Flying Saucers. Her book with Denise Stoner The Alien Abduction Files includes her investigation of six inter-generational cases of ET contact. Her fifth book Extraterrestrial Contact: What to do When You’ve Been Abducted is a comprehensive guide on UFO abduction phenomena and a self-help book for UFO abductees (published in French and English). In 2021 she updated and authored new sections in the 60th anniversary edition of Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience. She has authored two editions of Forbidden Knowledge: A Personal Journey from Alien Abduction to Spiritual Transformation (2022 and 2024)."

While certainly a lengthy and impressive summary of Ms. Marden's activities in the UFO arena, one question remains definitively unanswered:

What has Ms. Marden actually accomplished beyond talking to and interacting with alleged abductees, riding the coattails of the late Stanton T. Friedman, and selling merchandise during the course of her numerous appearances at UFO festivals?

As stated previously, Ms. Marden is a recipient of the International UFO Congress Lifetime Achievement Award, but her specific achievements remain undetermined. Has Ms. Marden uncovered irrefutable evidence to support any specific explanation for the anecdotal claims being made by alleged alien abductees? Has Ms. Marden determined the specific explanation for what her aunt Betty Hill and Mrs. Hill's husband Barney allegedly experienced back in 1961?

Ms. Marden has declared that people have interacted with "non-human entities," suggesting that she has some physical evidence of alien visitation, but alas, a Nobel Prize has not arrived at her ufological doorstep. Does Ms. Marden ever question the validity of the claims of alleged abductees, or does that particular investigative approach ever occur to her? I haven't the foggiest idea, but I do know that I have never come across anything, written or otherwise, that would suggest that Ms. Marden has done so, nor has she ever written about any abduction claim that turned out to be mundane in nature.

Usage of the term "accomplishments" suggests that the individual in question has found, through dogged adherence to the scientific method and legitimate investigative methodologies, definitive answers to previously unsolved questions. The term does not apply to the activities of Ms. Marden.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
