The Goofiness of UFO Broadcasters: a Self-Inficted Embarrassment.

Greetings. The UFO subculture, with its attached research community and entertainment industry, has consistently conducted itself in a less than advisable manner. The UFO subculture's ability to look goofy knows no bounds.

Beyond the wearing of costumes during UFO themed events and festivals, the behavior and choices being made by some self-described researchers leave a lot to be desired. Instead of pursuing opportunities that give the UFO field some credibility, many choose to embrace and support individuals that harm the field with their childish, unfocused, and embarrassing on-the-air conduct.

Many people in the UFO subculture that have a level of notoriety, some researchers, some celebrities, make ill-advised and counterproductive choices about who they support, and what shows they accept invitations to appear on. The damage done to the UFO field is immeasurable, and suggests that the people making the choices are thinking only of themselves and are not focused on the big picture and how their selected courses of action can be so destructive to the field they claim to love. Perhaps it never occurs to them at all, which speaks volumes about their cerebral density.

Once upon a time, years ago, I would appear on shows like Dave Scott's "Spaced Out Radio," usually under the guise of the token skeptic. After far too long of a time, I came to realize how wasteful spending time on such shows can truly be, and how destructive it is to the entire UFO subculture. Unfortunately, Scott's show is only the tip of the embarrassing iceberg, with a whole plethora of shows actively broadcasting nonsensical content while being hosted by people who seemingly have no idea how to appear serious-minded or how to communicate in a productive and professional manner. Two of the most well-known are Jimmy Church's "Fade to Black," and Rich Giordano's "GUFON Radio," both crap, both embarrassing, both able to continuously schedule guests that don't seem to mind waving goodbye to their credibility.

While Jimmy Church does have some credentialed guests on occasion; Kevin D. Randle, Donald R. Schmitt, and John Greenewald Jr., the majority of Church's guests are from the other side of the UFO tracks, the side with no credibility, and no qualms about spouting off about nonsense. Unfortunately, Church does not have any problem giving these people a platform to misinform the UFO public, but that evidently does not matter. All that truly matters is the gathering of viewers, listeners, and the effort to self-promote and gain from a financial standpoint.

Rich Giordano, the host and creator of GUFON Radio, does not have guests on his program very often, and that is only a good thing. To his credit, Giordano does not actively damage the credibility of the few people appearing on his show, but the few individuals who have been on-the-air with him can be seen as being guilty of making an ill-advised decision. What Giordano is certainly guilty of is appearing randomly disjointed and often times unable to stay focused in the topic at hand. His broadcasting style is reminiscent of the indigenous peoples of Australia; capable of going on a walkabout at any time, and without warning. An embarrassment to say the least.

In a very general sense, the inability of many broadcasters to take the UFO problem seriously is not really all that surprising. The people involved in the majority of UFO themed broadcast efforts seem to be unable to conduct themselves in a mature, focused, and professional manner. The situation is akin to dealing with a bunch of fifth graders, which should be embarrassing, but the players seem oblivious to their amateurish behaviors.

Personally and professionally, I would never choose to appear on these shows, or very many others for that matter. I don't want to look like an idiot, for I am fully capable of doing that all on my own. I certainly will not sacrifice my integrity or credibility in the effort to promote myself, financial gain not being a part of my professional game plan. Call me strange.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
