The Grusch Distractions.
Greetings. Whistleblowers. People who claim to have information that supports a possibility that many in the UFO subculture have always passed judgment on; alien visitation.
UFO history is chock full of such people, all of whom have made completely unsubstantiated declarations about what they themselves claim to have witnessed, or what they claim to have heard from others who eternally remain unnamed. As we look back on past decades, we can plainly see that none of the claims made by these various whistleblowers has ever been substantiated, with not a shred of proof, evidence, or documentation having been produced or uncovered by independent archivists or researchers. Such episodes have occurred on innumerable occasions, and likely will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
David Charles Grusch is the star of the latest episode, and as before, his second-hand, recycled claims are void of merit and reside comfortably in the unproven bin. Besides the investigative efforts being made to determine the validity or lack thereof of the talking points, what do such testimonials contribute to the UFO conversation? Nothing of any real consequence, excepting one malady that any field of study can ill afford to suffer from; distraction. Distraction? How can such a malady possibly negatively affect the UFO subculture? Let's consider some symptoms:
1. Distraction keeps the UFO conversations firmly centered on the whistleblowers and their rhetoric.
2. Distraction keeps the UFO conversations far from the actual UFO problem, with no discussion of cases, reports, alleged events, or unexplained sightings taking place.
3. Distraction has the effect of misinforming the UFO public, with opinions and speculations ruling the day, as opposed to data and objective information.
4. Distraction keeps the UFO subculture's attention squarely on the more sensationalized aspects of the topic, and light years away from the historical, the objective, the dispassionate.
I could think of a few more symptoms of distraction, but as I only have a few more decades left on this small terrestrial planet, I'll stop while I have the opportunity. In closing, the study of any unanswered question requires a high level of focus, a high standard of evidence, and a strong, consistent effort of keep less than productive distractions out of the picture.
The UFO subculture has come down with distraction, and the illness has metastasized.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
