Spinning the Bassett Wheels.

Greetings. Steven Bassett. Perhaps the best-known individual in the so-called "disclosure movement."

Mr. Bassett has been actively lobbying for disclosure for decades, with no success. His dedication to the effort is to be applauded and is worthy of our full support, but that is besides the point of this writeup. Mr. Bassett has made some statements concerning disclosure, affirmations that did not come to pass. Back on May 23rd of 2016, Mr. Bassett made the following statements during the course of an interview with the British Express. His statements read as follows, and I quote:

"We are going to get disclosure this year. I am not sure who will win the election, but I think Obama will be the disclosure president. He will be looking at a Nobel Prize for making an announcement like that. I am 85 percent sure Obama will make the announcement before he leaves office and within days your Prime Minister David Cameron will follow."

Mr. Bassett also stated that "ET is real, we have gone beyond that."

Mr. Bassett is certainly an energetic and dedicated lobbyist, and has been so for the entirety of his working career. While his statement about the reality of ET is purely an opinion, his statements about a potential disclosure carry substantially more weight with the UFO subculture. Opinions that are offered in a way that makes them appear to be declarations can be misleading. Such statements can often be taken as promises, and almost always end up being unfulfilled. It is reminiscent of the way UFO celebrities and personalities make promises that never seem to come to realization.

Now I am not making any allegations against Mr. Bassett, nor am I accusing the gentleman of any unprofessional conduct. What I am saying is that public figures have a responsibility to not make potentially misleading comments in the public arena. Such statements are occasionally made, but usually in a completely inadvertent manner, with the declarer not meaning to be nefarious in any way, shape, or form. My own feelings are that Mr. Bassett is simply passionate about the "disclosure movement," and nothing more.
